Life with kids can be messy. Isn’t that an understatement! Parents, we’re here for you. Check out these 10 cleaning hacks to keep your life (and sanity) in tact! Happy parenting!

  1. Dust Pan Quick Picker-Upper

Is your living room floor covered with Legos and other small toys? Speed up the clean-up with a broom and dustpan! Your kids will have fun “sweeping” up their toys and you’ll love how quickly you can see your floor again.

  1. Lint Roller: A.K.A. Glitter Roller

Glitter is a fun addition to any arts & crafts table…until it’s time to clean up. If your little ones are like ours, more glitter tends to end up on the floor than on the project itself. Don’t lug the vacuum out which will likely blow glitter all over the house! Use a lint roller to pick up each little sparkle in no time at all! It also works great to remove glitter from clothes.

  1. Say Goodbye to Carpet Stains

Juice spills, muddy footprints, paint drops…these are stains that can make any busy parent a little crazy. Don’t stress! Kiss those pesky carpet stains goodbye with just three simple ingredients: hydrogen peroxide, water, and lemon juice. This homemade carpet cleaner is easy to make, effective and non-toxic! Spray your carpet, let the mixture set, and scrub away. Your carpets will be clean and your to-do list just a bit shorter!

* In theory, hydrogen peroxide could bleach some of the color from the carpet, depending on the kind of dye. This is unlikely with 3% peroxide. However, be sure to test on a small, hidden area to be sure.

  1. Messy Hair, Don’t Care

Are your baby dolls constantly having bad hair days? Comb through those tangles with an easy DIY doll detangler. Mix two tablespoons of liquid fabric softener with water in a spray bottle and restore your doll’s hair to beautiful, smooth, out-of-the-box condition!

  1. Permanent Marker, Non-Permanent Mess

Have you ever found permanent marker on your hardwood floor or table? We know how scary that word ‘permanent’ can be. Don’t worry! With the right tools, you can remove it quickly and easily. Put a tab of white toothpaste on the marker stain and scrub it away with a damp cloth or paper towel. Voila! Marker-free and minty fresh.

  1. Outdoor Toys: No Power Washer? No problem!

Kids LOVE outdoor toys. Unfortunately, so do bugs, leaves, and dirt. But you don’t have to put playtime on pause for too long! Grab a scrub brush (or a car wash mitt!) and mix a bucket of dish detergent, water, and vinegar. Scrub off the stubborn dirt and bugs, rinse, and let playtime resume!

  1. Microwave Mayhem

Don’t work up a sweat scrubbing that caked-on food and splatters in your microwave.  Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water, lemon juice, vinegar, and a bit of vanilla extract. Heat the bowl for 5-8 minutes. The steam will help release the food that is too stubborn to come off.  The lemon cleans and the vanilla extract makes the whole process smell great! You’ll have a clean microwave before the next batch of leftovers is ready for a heat-up.

  1. Soapy Solutions

Does your little one like to pump a bit too much soap while washing hands? Next thing you know, the soap is EVERYWHERE. Here’s a solution: wrap a rubber band around the soap pump to control the amount that is released. Your toddler will have enough to wash with and your counter (and floor, and mirror, and drawers) will stay soap-free!

  1. Little Picasso’s Mess

Did your little artist turn the living room wall into a canvas again? We’ve all been there. Grab your baking soda and a damp cloth. Yup, it’s that simple. The marks should come off with minimal elbow grease! Bonus tip: if the baking soda doesn’t do the trick, try a bit of mayonnaise! Simply rub some a dab of mayo onto the crayon marks and let it soak in for a few minutes. Wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth and you’ll have your walls back!  Don’t forget to use your phone to grab a pic of that masterpiece before it’s gone forever.
